“The Future of Work” has completed shifted due to “The Great Resignation”. We went from discussing how companies and technology will evolve over time to, readjusting the way people value the concept of work. Companies are now having to focus not just on the evolution of technology or products, but how to build people-centric organizations to meet the needs of today’s workforce.
The “Great Resignation” has prompted people to rethink work from company culture to career growth opportunities. Salary, lifestyle changes, and motivations are changing the way people approach their career goals. For many companies, all of these driving factors have posed challenges for attracting and retaining talent.
The impacts of The Great Resignation
In 2021, The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported, that the overall turnover rate in companies was 57.3 %. Each month in the US, 3 to 4.5 million employees quit their job according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS). One survey found that 94% would stay at their current employer if they invested in their long-term learning.
Contrary to popular belief, this change we’re seeing in the workforce with retention started long before The Great Resignation. In fact, the Work Institute’s 2017 Retention Report found that 75% of the reasons for employee turnover can be prevented. The data was compiled from an analysis of 34,000 responses to the survey.
It starts “from the top”
86% of global HR and business leaders cited leadership as a top issue in 2016.
This makes a clear case for leaders to recognize any adjustments they need to make in their employee retention strategy.
Attracting and retaining talent requires you to actively identify and develop employees. Leaders need to develop a growth mindset that encompasses the people that are actually doing the work in your company.
